Umoja

Umoja is a point-to-point submarine cable linking South Africa and Australia. Landing at Amanzimtoti, Mandurah, it provides a direct fiber-optic path between the two countries, serving as both a primary data route and a redundancy option for neighboring cable systems. As an intercontinental system, Umoja plays a role in the global mesh of over 500 submarine cables that collectively carry more than 95% of international data traffic. This cable is part of GeoCables' continuous monitoring program — RIPE Atlas probes measure latency around the clock, flagging anomalies when RTT deviates significantly from established baselines.
