Internet outage in Cape Verde on 6 October 2026
Across Cape Verde, 21% of address blocks stopped answering our checks. None of the leading providers we watch showed a drop of its own, so the cause is likely outside their networks.

How it looked
The country two hours before, at the deepest point of the drop and two hours after. Area colour = how far its signal was below its own normal.

Country signal around the event
Each point: share of the country's networks that answered a probe within 10 minutes. Data: IODA (Georgia Tech). Event selection, exact timing and provider breakdown: GeoCables. Red band: the event.
Providers during the event
| Provider | Share of users | Signal drop | |
|---|---|---|---|
| CABO Verde Telecom AS37517 | 61.1% | 26% | Slight drop |
| Unitel T+ AS37575 | 19% | 0% | No change |
| Cogent Communications AS174 | 9.6% | - | Global network |
| Starlink AS14593 | 9.3% | - | Global network |
Share of users: APNIC estimate, scaled so that the providers of the country add up to 100%. Drop: how many of the network's address blocks stopped answering our checks. Mobile networks keep many people behind few addresses, so the country-wide share of silent addresses is not the share of people offline. Global networks (Starlink and the like) are measured worldwide by the source, not in this country.

How we know this
Both series come from IODA (Georgia Tech): BGP route visibility and active probing of networks inside the country. GeoCables does the rest: a drop of 20% or more below the usual level of the last 24 hours is a disruption, 50% or more an outage; the exact start and end are taken from the full-resolution series (10-minute steps), not from the moment our detector recorded the event. Provider figures are hourly samples from the same source; a provider counts as affected at a drop of 30% or more. Our own probes on land are a separate layer and are shown here only when they saw the event. If the providers that dropped serve under a quarter of the country's users and the largest provider worked as usual, we call it an outage in part of the networks rather than a major outage.
Confidence: Medium: the drop is visible in active probing; route visibility did not drop.
